Port Blair Airport To Remain Functional For Only 3 Days A Week

There is no doubt that the beaches of Andamans have always lured a wide number of tourists. But, here is some news for those who are planning to travel to Port Blair in the upcoming months. Veer Savarkar International Airport will only be operational for 3 days every week. The new working schedule of Port Blair Airport will be effective from 1st March and remain till 31st May 2022. Civil Aviation Department of the Andaman and Nicobar administration disclosed this news. The reason stated by the is renovation work at Port Blair Airport. They are planning to upgrade the Airport by recarpeting it.

The Number Of Flights Will Reduce

As per the latest information, the total number of flights landing at Port Blair Airport will be reduced to a great extent. Before the Covid era, around 22 daily flights used to land and takeoff at Veer Savarkar International Airport. However, the current status is that only 12 flights are operational on a daily basis. Numbers are expected to be reduced more from 1st March 2022.

Hotels and Travel Trade Is Unhappy

Already tourism has faced a bumpy ride in last 2 years due to covid 19 pandemic, the news of only 3 days of working of Airport made hotel owners and travel associations unhappy. For Andaman and Nicobar, tourism plays a primary role in revenue generation. Therefore, this news is unwelcoming for those who are associated with traveling and tourism.

Tourism association of Andaman and Nicobar making all possible efforts. They are requesting the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Defence to make slight changes in their decision.
