Naggar Castle Manali – A Beautiful Heritage In Manali

Naggar Castle is a historic castle built in medieval times located in Naggar. Naggar Castle was built in 1460 by Raja Sidhi Singh. The castle is famous for its European and Himalayan architecture. When you visit this place, you will see that this castle is built with stones and wooden beams. Kathkooni architecture is used in the making of this castle.

Historical Significance of Naggar Castle

The story of Naggar castle goes back to 1800 AD when this castle was used as Royal Residence and state headquarters. Naggar castle has seen changes from time to time. Raja Gyan Singh sold it to Major Hay (assistant commissioner) to get a Gun in return. Major Hay converted the Naggar Castle to European style by placing a staircase and fireplace and a European style chimney over the castle roof. Later, the Naggar Castle was sold to the British Government which converted it into a courthouse. When India got Independence in 1947, the court activities came to a complete halt. In 1978, Naggar Castle was again converted into a rest house, and recently it came under Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. They made it a heritage hotel now.
