One can find the most varied lakes in India. Some of them are stretched and wide, then there are lakes present at the highest geographical areas, and some are man-made, built by rulers in order to supply water throughout the city. Let’s check out the most picturesque lakes in India.

Wular Lake

Wular lake is known as the largest freshwater lake in India. This enormous lake is also the second-largest freshwater lake in Asia. It is located in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, at the foothills of Haramuk mountain. This largest lake of India covers an area of almost 200 square kilometers. Wular is so large that it has a small island as well with the name Zaina Lank, built by King Zainul-Abi-Din. The Jhelum river feeds the Wular lake. This gorgeous lake is also a famous sunset spot in Jammu and Kashmir as well. With a backdrop of the mighty Himalayas and stunning surroundings, this lake is worth visiting once in a lifetime.

Roopkund Lake

Roopkund is the spookiest lake in Uttarakhand. Located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Roopkund though not exactly a lake, is a glacial pond with human skeletons in it. The lake had no mystery surrounding it until 1942, when a British forest ranger discovered more than 800 human skeletons in it. Nevertheless, Roopkund is still a popular lake visited by many. Roopkund is also famous for its trek. It is also one of the highest altitude lakes in India. For all adventure seekers and those who want to enjoy nature in its raw form, this exotic lake of Uttarakhand should be on the adventure bucket list.
